Company History
Established in 1957 by Donald Koonce. Don and his wife Helen were
the head of the management team until his death in 1998 and his
wife's Helen death in 2001. Salem Wood Products and Donald Koonce
have been leaders in the organization of woodworking shops in the
Western Oregon Region throughout their history. Don served as the
president of the local chapter of the Architectural Woodwork
Institute (A.W.I.) the national body recognized as the authority in
setting the quality standards for the woodworking industry.
Now their two sons Dan and Todd carry on the family business and
currently head up the management team with Josh Conley.
Dan Koonce (president) with more than 34 years with the company has
an extensive background in Architectural Millwork. Growing up in the
business and running the mill shop, Dan was taught from the best in
"free hand knife grinding" and ran the rip saw and molder for more
than 15 years. His knowledge of the different woods and their
machining properties is beneficial to our customers and well as
achieving high quality products. He is involved in the community and
was on the building committee for the Salem Riverfront Carousel
Project.
Todd Koonce (vice president) with just 2 years less than Dan in the
company, is highly skilled with the computer aided side of
woodworking. Very fluent with AutoCAD he enjoys a real challenge
when programming a difficult part to produce on the CNC equipment.
Combining his years of cabinetmaking and computers has been a great
asset to the company.
Josh Conley (general manager) with more than 9 years in the company,
has an extensive background in time management combined with great
overall managing skills. Josh is very skilled with the computer
drafting and cabinet design programs.
From the bidding to the construction process to the closeout
documents, his managing skills and thorough attention to detail is
given on every project he has been involved with.
